Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
The Corpus Christi Rayz are pleased to be teaming up with the Central Hockey League, the Coastal Bend Blood Center and the "Hoffen" Foundation for Saturday night's "Guaranteed Fight Night" contest versus the Austin Ice Bats. In two league-wide events, the Rayz are proud to present the CHL Blood Drive and Captains for Courage Program at the American Bank Center. The Rayz will also welcome the U.S. Army as part of the night. Make your plans to be in attendance this Saturday on "Guaranteed Fight Night" with the Rayz. For more information, please call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK.
On Saturday night, the Rayz, in conjunction with the Coastal Bend Blood Center, will be holding a blood drive outside of the American Bank Center from 5:30-8:30pm. As part of a CHL-wide blood drive, all 15 league teams are competing in an effort to have the most blood donated at a team sponsored event in the month of February. The Rayz are encouraging all members of the Coastal Bend to come and support the CBBC and South Texas communities. The Rayz will provide a free ticket voucher - redeemable for a ticket to any remaining Rayz game this season - to all fans who participate in the Rayz blood drive effort on Saturday night.
In addition, the Rayz have also joined forces with the Hoffen Foundation to support C.A.S.A. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) a local organization that assists young children from broken homes, as part of the Captains for Courage Program. On Saturday night, Rayz captain, Bernie John will wear a special "Caps for Courage" patch on his jersey. The jersey will then be autographed by John and auctioned off on the CHL website, along with other jerseys from around the league. Proceeds raised from John's jersey will benefit C.A.S.A. The online auction will begin February 10th and run through 5:00 PM CST on Wednesday, March 1st and can be found at centralhockeyleague.com/merchandise/auction.
The non-profit Hoffen Foundation was established by former CHL linesman and cancer survivor Tim Zemens of Arlington, Texas during the summer of 2003. The name "Hoffen" is German for "hope", and the foundation is dedicated to fundraising events that cultivate such hope for children throughout the United States and Canada. The Hoffen Foundation has contributed close to $20,000 to CHL and team charities the past two seasons.
"The CHL Blood Drive and Captains for Courage Program are great examples of CHL teams and cities uniting to create win-win situations," said Rayz General Manager, Larry Linde. "I expect that Rayz fans throughout the Coastal Bend will turn out in force to support both of these wonderful organizations. Whether it's participating in the Blood Drive or bidding on the jersey we've always been able to count on the support of the Rayz fans."
In the final home game of the 2004-2005 season, the Rayz and Ice Bats combined for a total of 198 penalty minutes. On Saturday night the teams meet for the final time this season in Corpus Christi, and fans in attendance are guaranteed to see a fight. Plus Time Warner is giving away a weekend trip to Las Vegas, including airfare, hotel accommodations and tickets to the Fernando Vargas vs. Shane Mosley Fight at the Mandalay Bay on February 25th. Make your plans to be at the American Bank Center on Saturday, February 18th for "Guaranteed Fight Night" when the Rayz battle the Ice Bats. For ticket information, please call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK.
