
Rayz "power" past Killer Bees 6-1

A night of season highs added up to a Corpus Christi Rayz 6-1 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Sunday at the American Bank Center. The Rayz tied a season high for most goals in a game, and most points by a player, led by Jon Jankus' four point effort. The Rayz also struck for a season-high four power play goals. Corpus Christi beat Rio Grande Valley for the third straight time and is now 13-16-3, and moved four points ahead of the idle Amarillo Gorillas for fifth place in the Southern Coference. The Rayz return to the American Bank Center on Wednesday, January 9th at 7:05pm when they host the New Mexico Scorpions. Individual tickets are on sale now. The Killer Bees didn't waste any time getting on the board. Lance Herauf scored his tenth goal of the year just 16 seconds into the hockey game to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. The Rayz countered on a power play at 5:15 when Jon Jankus beat Jeff Van Nynatten from the left circle to tie the score 1-1. Joe Blaznek then gave the Rayz the lead at 14:40 when Blaznek scored on a sharp angle wrist shot from the bottom of the left circle and snuck just inside the right post. The Rayz took a 2-1 lead into the second period after outshooting the Bees 13-8 in the first.
The Rayz added the only goal of the second period when Jankus scored his second power play marker of the night at 8:53. The Rayz outshot the Bees 14-8 in the second period.
The Rayz poured it on in the third period adding three tallies to complete the victory. Brent Howarth scored for the third straight game on a power play 23 seconds into the frame. Geno Parrish then struck for the eighth time this season at 9:29. Adam Powell capped the scoring at 10:52 on a power play.
Tapp made 21 saves on 22 shots to improve to 13-13-2. Van Nynatten made 34 saves on 40 shots falling to 4-8-3. The Rayz went 4-11 on the power play, and the Bees were 0-7. The Rayz outshot the Bees 40-22.
