Rycroft's 20th delivers win

January 6, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Oklahoma City - Rocky Mountain Rage centerman Daymen Rycroft scored his league-leading 10th power play goal in the third period, which proved the difference in his club's 3-2 win against the Oklahoma City Blazers at the Ford Center.

The Rage opened the scoring 3:55 into the first period when Scott Wray lit the lamp for the first time in seven games, notching his 18th tally of the year. The club then skated on the power play looking to add to its advantage but instead gave up a short-handed goal to Oklahoma City's Alex Lalonde at 7:39, and the teams eventually headed to the second tied at one.

The second period followed a similar pattern to the first as the teams traded single goals. The Blazers scored just 27 seconds into the frame when Gordon Bell snapped a shot top shelf off a loose puck lying in the slot, but Colt King responded quickly for Rocky Mountain, recording his 10th of the campaign at 2:15 to square the game at two through 40 minutes.

The stalemate lasted through the mid-point of the final frame. The Rage finally converted on their sixth power play chance of the evening as Rycroft re-directed a Brent Cullaton wrist shot from the point for the eventual game-winner at 12:00. Not only does he lead the league with his 10 power play goals, he also became the first player in team history to reach the 20-goal milestone.

Rocky Mountain then played a text-book conservative style down the stretch to seal the 3-2 win and run its record to 22-4-3. The club now leads the Northwest Division with 47 points, seven points ahead of the second-place Colorado Eagles, who lost to the Laredo Bucks earlier in the evening.
