Rays sting the Smokies

Sevierville, Tenn. - Danny Massiatte went 4-for-4 with a three-run home run as Orlando topped Tennessee with a 9-2 win to earn a series split Sunday afternoon at Smokies Park.

Massiatte led a 15-hit O-Rays attack, doubling twice and scoring three times. Jace Brewer was the only Orlando starter without a hit.

Juan Pena (L, 4-5) lasted six innings allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out four.

Tennessee scored twice in the 6th inning to close the Orlando lead to 4-2 before the Rays finished the scoring with five unanswered. Al Benjamin started off with a double and scored from second on a Kevan Burns single. Papo Bolivar hit a single two batters later scoring Burns.

The Smokies will host the Carolina Mudcats tomorrow in the first of a four game series Monday night at Smokies Park. The Smokies will send Chris Narveson (3-0 2.08) to face Randy Messenger (4-6 5.59) of the Mudcats in a race for first place in the Eastern Division at 7:15 p.m. ET.
