Sevierville, Tenn. (Ticker) - Danny Haren threw seven shutout innings and two relievers finished a six-hitter as the Tennessee Smokies blanked the Orlando Rays, 3-0. The 22-year-old Haren (4-0) allowed five hits and struck out six in the win, lowering his ERA to 1.09 through four starts.
Jeremy Lambert notched his first save with a perfect ninth inning as Tennessee sent Orlando to its 10th straight loss. Kevan Burns tripled in a pair of runs in the second and tripled and scored in the fifth to pace the offense for the Smokies, who beat Orlando for the fourth time in five tries. Doug Waechter (1-2) gave up three runs and nine hits in seven innings to suffer the loss for the Rays, who have scored just 2.7 runs per game during their losing streak.
The series continues tomorrow at 7:15 PM ET, as the Rays send righty Jim Magrane (2-1, 1.43) to the mound against Nick Stocks (1-0, 2.25).
