
Rays Fall in Series Opener

Kodak, Tenn.âTennessee limited Orlando to two runs on nine hits as the Smokies beat the Rays 7-2 at Smokies Park Thursday.
Tennessee jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the second when Caonabo Cosme connected for a solo home run off Orlando starter Jason Cromer (L, 1-3). Cromer lasted just five innings, allowing three runs â all earned â on five hits and three walks in taking his second straight loss. Three Orlando relievers didn't fare any better, as the Smokies scored four runs on eight hits over their final three at-bats.
Jonny Gomes and B.J. Upton each went 1-4 with a double and RBI in the loss for Orlando, who dropped to 25-29 on the second half. Joey Gathright and Shawn Riggans also chipped in with two hits apiece for the Rays.
The Rays and Smokies continue their four-game series tomorrow at 7:15, with Orlando sending RHP Scott Autrey (3-3, 3.18) to the mound against Tennessee lefty Chris Narveson (4-1, 2.68).
