Mobile BayBears News Release
Chattanooga, Tenn. â Chris Oxspring picked up right where Justin Germano left off on Tuesday as Oxspring duplicated Germano's complete game with one of his own Thursday night as the BayBears defeated Chattanooga 3-1.
Oxspring (9-5) allowed only one runner past first base on the night. Guye Senjem hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning accounting for the lone run for the Lookouts. Oxspring gave up just three hits and struck out seven while not issuing a walk. The complete game was the BayBears second of the season and second in as many games.
"The key for me tonight was getting ahead," Oxspring said. "After that I knew I could attack the strike zone. I felt good going out there in the ninth. I was a little tired but once the inning started you can't think about that."
The BayBears had their leadoff batter reach base in the first four innings of the game, however, none would score as two were thrown out attempting to steal and the Lookouts turned two doubled plays.
The BayBears broke a scoreless tie as they scored all three of their runs in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Joe Gerber drew a walk and scored as Danny Bravo doubled to left-center. Bravo crossed the plate as J.J. Furmaniak tripled off of the centerfield wall. Then Lookouts starting pitcher Steve Kelly uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Furmaniak to score the BayBears final run.
The BayBears and Lookouts will play game two of their four-game series Friday night at 7:05.
