June 28, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Orlando Rays News Release

ORLANDO-Four West Tennessee pitchers combined on a shutout as the Diamond Jaxx dropped the Orlando Rays 2-0 in front of 4,708 fans at Cracker Jack Stadium Saturday.

Orlando starting pitcher Jim Magrane (7-4) matched the West Tennessee hurlers through the first six innings but the Diamond Jaxx broke through in the seventh with a pair of runs when Brendan Harris laced a two-run single into left field. Harris' single gave the Diamond Jaxx all the runs they would need, and Magrane left after allowing two runs - both earned - on eight hits and three walks over 6.2 innings.

Jason Szuminski (4-1) was solid in a spot start for the Diamond Jaxx, tossing six scoreless innings, scattering seven hits while walking none. David Cash (SV, 10) earned the save with a scoreless ninth

Amado German went 2-4 with a double in the loss for the Rays, who have been limited to one run on 13 hits over the last two games against West Tennessee. With the loss Orlando dropped their fourth straight game and fell to 2-8 in the second half of the season.

The O-Rays and Diamond Jaxx close out the series tomorrow at 1:35, with West Tennessee sending RHP Sergio Mitre (5-7, 4.41) to the mound, while Orlando counters with LHP Joe Kennedy. Kennedy, 3-5, 5.88 in 12 games with Tampa, is making a rehab start as he has been on the DL with shoulder tendonitis.

O-Rays Notes

· INF Brooks Badeaux was promoted to Class AAA Durham following Friday's game with the Diamond Jaxx. No subsequent moves were made following the promotion, leaving the O-Rays roster at 22 active players, one short of the Southern League maximum.
