Zebulon, NC – The Mobile BayBears entered Saturday night's game against Carolina having dropped the first two games of the series by a combined 15-3. They bucked that trend however, jumping out early and winning game three, 7-3. The BayBears also entered the game 1-8 against the Mudcats this season, a fact not lost on BayBears' manager, Craig Colbert.

"We've been playing from behind all season against these guys," Colbert said. "It ws nice to get out early tonight. We had timely hitting early in the game and we had good situational hitting from Jon Knott. Bobby Scales hit the ball well tonight."

Starter Chris Oxspring earned the win as he threw 5 and one-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out eight batters. Oxspring (5-3) moves his record to 5-1 since moving onto the BayBears' starting rotation.

The BayBears scored twice in the first inning against Carolina starter Ryan Snare. Bobby Scales scored on an infield groundout by Jon Knott. With two outs, Danny Bravo drove in Rico Washington with a single up the middle.

In the fourth the BayBears extended their lead to 5-0. Todd Donovan drove in Humberto Quintero with a line-drive single and Scales followed with a two-run double.

Matt Padgett led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homerun off of Oxspring to get the Mudcats on the board. Carolina cut the BayBears' lead to 5-3 in the sixth. Josh Wilson doubled home the first run and scored on Chip Ambres' sacrifice fly.

That would all of the scoring for the Mudcats on the night as the Mobile bullpen shutout the Southern Leagues' best hitting team the rest of the way.

The BayBears added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to wrap up the contest. Knott drove in his second run of the night as he drove in Donovan with a sacrifice fly in the eighth and Jon Benick scored on a throwing error by Carolina third baseman Drew Niles.

The BayBears and Mudcats will play the finale of their series Sunday afternoon at 4:00. LHP Cory Stewart (7-4, 3.38) will start on the mound for Mobile against Carolina RHP Denny Bautista (1-0, 0.00).
