River City Rascals News Release
O'FALLON, MO - The Rascals snapped a three game losing streak in their return to T.R. Hughes Ballpark, taking a 10-7 decision over the Rockford RiverHawks Sunday night. The contest featured six lead changes and one tie.
River City (33-24) snapped a 7-7 game in the eighth with three runs, all coming with two outs. Joe Billick singled to start the frame and was pulled for Joe Chavarria at first base. Scott Houin singled with two outs to put runners at the corners and Chad Maddox doubled home the winning run. Scott Robinson added two for good measure with a double to right field for the 10-7 final.
Brent Solich (1-0) earned his first victory with 1.2 hitless innings out of the bullpen with two strikeouts. Jason Lowey earned his 14th save in 15 chances with a scoreless ninth inning.
Rockford (29-28) held their last lead at 6-4 with three runs in the sixth. Five consecutive singles to start the inning against Jake Edwards gave the Hawks the advantage. Edwards allowed RBI singles to Brandon Cohen and Ross McCoy after the first three reached to leave the bases loaded and nobody out. Doug Sanders grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to plate the final tally in the frame.
Pablo Lopez went the first five for River City, surrendering three runs on five hits with three strikeouts to earn the no-decision.
The Rascals responded all night and took the lead back from Rockford with three of their own in the sixth. Billick drove in a run and Houin lifted a sacrifice fly to plate three unearned runs, courtesy of three Rockford errors.
Brett Durand didn't benefit from the lack of support, allowing seven runs (four earned) on nine hits in 5.1 innings. The right-hander struck out four and walked none in the game.
Slava Vasilyev (0-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing the three eighth inning runs on four hits.
Maddox, Colton and Billick all launched solo home runs in the game with Maddox and Colton each collecting three hits.
The Rascals and RiverHawks return to action tomorrow night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Jay Monti (5-5) will go up against Josh Lowey (4-1). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
