Rascals Showing Improvement

River City Rascals News Release

The River City Rascals finished off their first preseason exhibition series Saturday morning in Kansas City, MO, against the Northern League T-Bones with a 7-5 loss, but the Rascals have already shown signs of improvement.

"This weekend was huge for us in the sense that we're getting a good look as to what kind of a ball team we're going to have," Manager Toby Rumfield said.

The Rascals and T-Bones were playing even until the bottom of fifth inning when Rascals pitcher Matt Luca gave up five earned runs in 2/3 of an inning. Luca was relieved in the inning.

"Other than that one bad inning we played really, really well," Rumfield said. "You have to remember this is only our fourth day together this season and for the fourth day I was very impressed with what I'm seeing out of these kids. I felt we really played good defense and hit the ball well today."

The game saw the Rascals hit their first home run of the summer coming off the bat of Rascals first baseman Bobby (Big Mo) Mosby. Some of the other Rascal offensive highlights included infielder Matt Just going 2-4 with a run scored. Outfielder Wilson Burwell went 2-4 with a RBI and Estevan Quintana went 1-4 with a double and an RBI. Mosby finished the day 1-4 with a home run and three RBI.

The Rascals will return home and play Frontier League foe Southern Illinois Minors on Monday, May 14 at 11:05am. The game will be played T.R. Hughes Ballpark and tickets are available to the general public for $5.
