Rapids win in a blowout

February 5, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Buffalo Silverbacks News Release

Buffalo, NY. The ABA Buffalo Rapids rolled over the Boston Frenzy, 136-90, leading the entire game. Antoine Sims played like a star for the Rapids as he set a new team record with 52 points, scoring an astonishing 12 three-point baskets in what could be an ABA record. Sims didn't miss the chance to impress his family and friends who flew in from North Carolina. But being the team player he is, he refused to take all the credit. "We won as a team. I couldn't have done it without my teammates. We have had good practices recently, many meetings, and a chemistry that keeps getting better and better. When we win as a team, I win as an individual."

Sims had help from Turner Battle throughout the show as he accumulated 13 assists and 10 points. Mark Bortz also had a strong showing with 15 points. Battle and Bortz attracted many UB students to the game who undoubtedly entertained the entire crowd.

The Rpaids were able to win without three key contributors. ABA All-Star guard Tim Winn, Modie Xox and Brad Buddenborg all sat out the game with injuries. Winn and Cox are expected back before the All-Star break. For more information, email Nadia Fezzani, Media Relations at nadia@buffalorapids.com or visit www.buffalorapids.com or www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
