Rapids' Omar Cummings Named to Jamaican Roster for Match This Saturday

COMMERCE CITY, CO (Thursday, July 24, 2008) - Colorado Rapids forward Omar Cummings has been named to the Jamaican National Team for an international friendly this Saturday, July 26 against El Salvador at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. With Saturday's match, Cummings hopes to earn his first-ever cap for his native country.

This will be Jamaica's only scheduled tune-up match before facing Canada in their opening CONCACAF semi-final World Cup qualifying fixture on August 20 in Toronto. The Reggae Boyz are currently ranked no. 94 in the FIFA Rankings.

Cummings left to join the Jamaican National Team on Thursday and is expected to return before Colorado's home match against Columbus this Sunday, July 27 at 7:30 pm MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

This season, the Bodles Crescent, Jamaica native is tied for the Rapids team lead in goals with four, and has seen playing time in 16 of the Rapids' 17 MLS matches, including 10 starts.

Cummings becomes the third Rapids player this season to be called upon for national team duty, joining Bouna Coundoul (Senegal) and Pablo Mastroeni (USA).
