Colorado Rapids News Release
On Tuesday, September 22, in honor of National Voter Registration Day, the Colorado Rapids announced their partnership with I Am A Voter and Rally the Vote in support of voter registration for the upcoming November 3 election.
The efforts of I Am A Voter are geared toward a cultural shift in the voting process. The organization is working to make voting mainstream and to encourage civic engagement. The Rapids are hoping to use the power of sport and its players to encourage everyone to feel open and proud to say: I Am A Voter.
As part of this initiative, the Rapids have created a text number for fans to use to learn about and verify all voting information. Fans can simply text RAPIDS to 26797 to register to vote, confirm your registration, receive information on important dates and locations for voting in your area and more.
The club is also working in support of Rally the Vote. This program was organized by the Sacramento Kings and has drawn support from all major U.S. sports leagues in encouraging fans to get out and vote, with the goal of increasing voter participation in every election and closing the age and race voting gap. You can learn more about Rally the Vote here.
In addition, the Rapids are supporting the league-wide initiative of MLS Unites to Vote. This launch was organized by MLS, MLS Players Association and Black Players for Change in order to encourage staff, players and fans to take advantage of their right to vote. As part of this launch, the league announced that their office and all U.S.-based club offices will be closed on Election Day. Learn more about how the league is getting involved.
