Rapids 2 Sign Yosuke Hanya, Omar Gomez to MLS NEXT Pro Squad

Rapids 2 announced two more roster additions on Friday morning as midfielders Yosuke Hanya and Omar Gomez signed to the new MLS NEXT Pro team in its inaugural season.

Hanya, a midfielder and recent University of Massachusetts Amhearst graduate, brings versatility and creativity to the Rapids 2 attack. The Tokyo native earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, First Team All-Region and First team All Atlantic 10 recognitions in his time as a Minuteman, and ranked ninth in the nation in assists in 2021. Hanya has also represented his home country on the u-16 and u-19 Japanese national teams.

Like Serna, Gomez is a product of the Rapids Academy. After graduating from the Academy, the midfielder took his talents to Salt Lake Community College, where he earned a NJCAA National Championship for the 2020 season and advanced to the semifinals in 2021. Gomez impressed in the preseason with his individual defending and composure in centerback, but has the versatility to show out in fullback and center mid, as well.
