Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

GRAND RAPIDS - The Grand Rapids Rampage will welcome former Michigan State University quarterback Jeff Smoker and the rest of the Nashville Kats tomorrow night (May 5) in an Arena Football League Central Division showdown. The game, which will kick off at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Centennial Wireless Field at Van Andel Arena, represents a rematch of 2001's ArenaBowl XV in which the Rampage defeated the Kats, 64-42, for their first AFL championship.

Last week, the Rampage surrendered an 18-point third-quarter lead in a tough road loss to the Los Angeles Avengers. Grand Rapids quarterback Chad Salisbury (Perryopolis, Pa.) threw for seven touchdowns and 297 yards in the 75-71 defeat.

Despite the loss, Grand Rapids' Timon Marshall (Kingston, Jamaica) proved once again why he is one of the most electrifying players in Arena Football. The 5-10, 188-pound receiver set a Rampage record with 406 all-purpose yards, including 173 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns on 13 catches. Marshall also returned a kickoff for a touchdown as the final horn of the first half sounded, marking his fourth kickoff return score of the year. After compiling 1,097 all-purpose yards including 717 kickoff return yards in the month of April, Marshall was named the AFL's Ironman of the Month earlier this week.

Unfortunately, the injury bug bit the Rampage hard once again last week. Receiver Ronney Daniels (Lake Wales, Fla.) suffered a back injury early in the third quarter and will miss the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, Grand Rapids placed Jason Berger (Odessa, Texas) on injured reserve as well, which will sideline the offensive lineman for at least four weeks. The Rampage hope that the addition of offensive lineman Todd Williams (Bradenton, Fla.) via a trade with San Jose and the signing of center Mondre Dickerson (Memphis, Tenn.) and receiver Jermaine Lewis (Waukegan, Ill.) will help fill the gaps.

Rampage fans unable to get down to the arena can watch the action live beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Comcast Local with Ben Holden and Ray Bentley calling the action. Also, fans can hear every snap with play-by-play voice Joe Parson and color commentator Herman Moore on WBFX 101.3 or at RampageFootball.com.
