The Grand Rapids Rampage have announced the signings of former Rampage defensive specialist Raphael Ball, 2000 AFL leading passer Robert Hall and 2000 AFL leading receiver Carlos Johnson.
Raphael Ball (5'11" 170 lbs. - Ball State) led the Rampage in tackles during the team's 1998 inaugural season, and played with the team through 2001. Ball has both an ArenaBowl ring (Grand Rapids 2001) and Grey Cup ring (British Columbia 2000) to his name. In addition to his time in the AFL, Ball has spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, Washington Redskins and New York Giants. He has also played in NFL Europe, the XFL, and in af2.
Robert Hall (6'00" 180 lbs. - Texas Tech) is the only player in AFL history to record 1,000 career yards in both receiving and passing. Hall has played for the Texas Terror/Houston ThunderBears, Indiana Firebirds and Carolina Cobras. In 2000, he led the AFL in passing yards (4,053), total offense (4,153), passing attempts (496) and completions (325). During his six AFL seasons, he has completed 61.5% of his passes for 7,842 yards with 124 TDs and 26 INTs for a 102.37 rating. Hall has also caught 241 passes for 3,061 yards with 54 receiving scores and 19 rushing scores. Hall attended training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1999, and spent time in the Baltimore Ravens camp in 1997.
After sitting out a season, Carlos Johnson (5'11" 182 lbs. - Lane College) returns to the Arena Football League and to his former coach - Bob Cortese. While playing for Cortese in 2000, Johnson led the AFL with 122 receptions (10th best in AFL history) for 1,412 yards and 23 touchdowns. Johnson began his AFL career with the Portland Forest Dragons in 1999, before the team relocated to Oklahoma. He spent a season and a half in Oklahoma before being traded to Toronto and then to Tampa Bay. In just five games with Tampa Bay, Johnson grabbed 31 passes for 414 yards and four touchdowns. He also appeared in one game with the New Jersey Gladiators in 2002 grabbing three passes for 33 yards and a score. Johnson sat out the 2003 AFL season to be with his fiancé - who is a member of the Air Force and was scheduled to be shipped overseas. His father, Andre, played defensive back for the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets.
