Raleigh Rebels News Release

RALEIGH NC - The Raleigh Rebels of the American Indoor Football League opened training camp for the 2006 season Wednesday with a late-night practice at the Factory Icehouse in Wake Forest. Head Coach Steven G. Folmar and his staff, along with approximately 35 players met for a team meal, meetings and finally their first practice, which began at 10:45pm and wound up about 12:30am Thursday. "We really wanted to be indoors, but with soccer being so big indoors this time of year we had to make some concessions " said Folmar.

Many of the Rebels didn't seem to mind the late night practice. They were just glad to be back on the field. Returning wide receiver/linebacker Corey Peterson was not bothered by the late night, "I get up as early as anyone out here and this doesn't bother me. All that matters to me is getting on this turf. Outdoors it isn't the same. This is a real setting, using the walls and all. That's big."

Fullback /Linebacker Derek Armah, out of the University of Wyoming, says the time was not the big problem but the changes of learning the indoor game. "It was just different" says Armah. "From playing running back outdoors to playing fullback indoors, it is quite a change." The rookie running back said he was not phased by the late night practice but he says that in the long run it could mount up. "After a while we will have to see how guys respond to it. People have to make sure they are getting their rest. At Wyoming we used to get up and practice at 6am to get indoors but after a while you could see where that would start to wear on people."

The Rebels return to action Thursday Night in the factory at 9:45pm. Then players are off Friday with two a-day practices starting Saturday at the public parks behind Wake Forest/ Rolesville Middle School in Wake Forest on Saturday with practices at 10a.m. and 3p.m. Then the Rebels will be back indoors at the Factory Icehouse at 10a.m. Sunday with a controlled scrimmage set for the public park at 3p.m. Practices are open to the public.
