Halifax Rainmen News Release

Halifax, NS- The Halifax Rainmen welcomed back previously suspended forward Eric Crookshank with a 28 point performance from Tony Bennett and 25 from Brian Silverhorn as Halifax moves past Vermont 108-97.

Vermont had the early lead at 12-4 on a Thomas Sanders jumper, and a three from Richard Millsap, but Halifax jumped back in the game going on a 16-1 run. During the run, Brian Silverhorn had a three and a pair of driving hoops; Eric Crookshank had a pair of jumpers and Jimmy Twyman converted a three point play after a nice driving right hand layin.

In the second, the Rainmen took a 13 point lead into the intermission as they went on another run, this one of 9-0 at the end of the first half.

Brian Silverhorn was left wide open and hit a right side three and an emphatic right hand slam from Cordell Jeanty. Vermont did not seem to be able to rotate out on Silverhorn and he took advantage going 4-5 from three point range in the half and the Rainmen were up 13 at the break.

In the third, Brian Silverhorn continued his strong play nailing a three to start the quarter, and Halifax looked more rested and more prepared to play. With the exception of Vermont's John Williams who had 18 after three quarters, the Frost Heaves were flat shooting only 42% through three quarters, but managed to outrebound the Rainmen by eight.

In the forth, the legs came back for the Frost Heaves as they went on a 13-3 run to start the quarter. John Williams continued to be lights out from the outside hitting a right side three and another bomb just inside the arc. The rebounding and defense continued for the Heaves as they were able to make it a one point game. The run ended on a Tony Bennett jumper and the Rainmen extended the lead back to three and would start an 11-2 run of their own. David Bailey converted on a three point play and Bennett had back to back coast to coast layups for Halifax. The run was broken by a Greg Plummer jumper, but then on a no-call, Vermont coach Will Voigt was hit with a technical; Silverhorn hit both free throws and the lead was back to 11. The teams would trade baskets for the rest of the game and Halifax would win 108-97.

Notes: The Rainmen's David Bailey would finish with 12 points and 15 boards. John Williams had 26 for the Frost Heaves. The attendance was estimated at 4,600.
