
Rainmen Defeat Millrats in Saint John

On Thursday night the Rainmen travelled to Saint John to take on Atlantic Rivals the Mill Rats. The Rainmen were able to ride a big 3rd quarter to a 102-89 victory, improving to 11-12 on the season and taking possession of second place in the Atlantic Conference.
The Rainmen didn't get off to a great start, but guard Joey Haywood scored six straight points to cut the Mill Rats lead to 13-12 with 5:58 to play in the 1st. In the first quarter the Rainmen shot only 30% and trailed 25-18. Rainmen forward Quinnel Brown led all players with 8 points and 5 rebounds in the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Rainmen outscored the Mill Rats 30-23, as Cedric Moodie hit a jumper right before the half-time buzzer- his 8th point of the half- to tie the game at 48. Quinnel Brown and Joey Haywood led the Rainmen with 11 points each in the first half, while Hillary Haley chipped in 9 and 5 rebounds and Antoine Tisby had 4 points and 8 rebounds. Anthony Anderson led Mill Rats with 12 points and 6 assists in the first half.
In the third quarter, the Rainmen took their first lead of the game 50-48 on a pair of free-throws from Joey Haywood. The Rainmen continued on a 13-0 run to lead 61-48, and later had a separate 11-0 run in outscoring the Mill Rats 32-17 in the quarter and taking a 80-65 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter Cedric Moodie hit a couple shots, Malcolm White had back-to-back dunks and the Rainmen took care of business, winning the game with a final score of 102-89.
The Rainmen were led by guard Cedric Moodie who scored 20 points, including 4 threes, in his first game with the team. Quinnel Brown and Antoine Tisby had double-doubles with 19 points and 12 rebounds for Brown, and 10 points and 11 rebounds for Tisby. Hillary Haley had 15 points and 8 rebounds off the bench, and Joey Haywood chipped in with 14 points, including a perfect 3-3 from downtown.
The Rainmen shot 42% from the field, 44% from 3 and 80% from the free-throw line, and out-rebounded the Mill Rats 68-41. Contributions off the bench were also key for the Rainmen as they out-scored the Mill Rats bench 49-29, and all 10 active players scored. The Mill Rats were led by guards Anthony Anderson, Jerice Crouch and Joe Posey who each had 14 points, and now fall to 11-12 on the season.
The Rainmen will travel next week to face the Oshawa Power and the Windsor Xpress.
