Rainmen Beat the Storm
The Halifax Rainmen traveled to Summerside PEI on Wednesday in hopes of ending their four game losing streak. The Storm came out firing threes to start the game. Plummer hit four of his first five shots to start the game and had 14 points in the first five minutes. The Rainmen re focused after a time out and ended the quarter only down six points 29-23. Plummer finished the quarter with 17 points. The Rainmen were lead by point guard Melvin Goins with eight points three assists and three rebounds.
The Rainmen were able to gain some momentum midway through the second quarter with great team play, includung back-to-back threes by Tyler Richards. Plummer kept the hot hand and finished the half with 22 points including five three pointers followed by Omari Johnson who finished the half with 11 points in only eight minutes of action. Goins lead all Rainmen at the break with 12 points three rebounds and five assists. Tisby added ten points in the paint followed by Tyrone Levett who finished the half with eight points. The Rainmen shot 48% from the field while the Storm shot an even 50%.
The third quarter started with Levett connecting on a deep three. Quincy Okolie off the bench had two huge blocks in three possessions. Plummer was non factor in the third held scoreless. Johnson was held to only two points.
The Storm came out strong in the fourth with an 8-2 run. Plummer hit a three (his first bucket since the 2nd quarter) to cut the Rainmen lead to three with 7:30 left in the game. The Rainmen were able to counter attack in by scoring in the paint. Brown made a pass to Goins who made the lay up forcing deflating the Storm's momentum, forcing Storm to call a time out with four minutes to play. The Rainmen were able to hold off a last minute run by the Storm winning on the road 118-113.
Plummer lead all scorers with an impressive 34 points, followed by Omari Johnson with 15 points and 10 rebounds in his debut. Al Stewart added 13 points, Antonio ballard had 16 points and 15 rebounds and Brandon Robinson finished with 12 points. The Rainmen offensive attack was lead by Joey Haywood and Melvin Goins with 24 points a piece, followed by Tyrone Levett with 18 points, Quinnel Brown with 16 points, Antoine Tisby with 14 points and Quincy Okolie finishing with ten points.
The Rainmen continue their road trip facing Saint John Thursday Decemeber 28 at 7pm.
