
Rainiers Outlast Zephyrs 7-6

The Tacoma Rainiers rallied past the New Orleans Zephyrs 7-6 in the series opener between the two teams at Cheney Stadium on Thursday.
Down 6-2 headed into the bottom of the eighth, the Rainiers took advantage of some errors by the and a pair of timely walks to score five runs in the inning to steal the win and break a four-game losing skid.
Outfielder Ezequiel Carrera drew a bases-loaded walk that scored first baseman Mike Carp to get thing sstarted. A fielding error by New Orleans first baseman Lee Mitchell scored Greg Halman one batter later and another bases-loaded walk, this time drawn by Brad Nelson, drove in Jack Hannahan to cut the deficit to just one run.
The go-ahead score came in the Rainiers next at-bat after Tommy Everidge's pop-up was fumbled by New Orleans outfielder Emilio Bonafacio, driving in both Carrera and Vazquez.
Carrera headlined for the Rainiers lineup in the come-from-behind win following a 3-for-3, three-RBI night. Donnie Murphy was offensive leader for the Zephyrs after going 2-for-4 and driving in a pair of runs.
Earning the win in the outing was Rainiers reliever Garrett Olson after the left-hander delivered a hitless, scoreless performance with five strikeouts through the final 2.1 innings of the night.
Zephyrs reliever Taylor Tankersley was tagged with the loss after giving up the go-ahead run in the eighth.
Tacoma looks to continue their winning ways when they take on New Orleans at Cheney Stadium again on Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Right-hander Andy Baldwin will head to the mound for the Rainiers, while New Orleans counters with right-hander Tim VadenHurk.
