Salem RidgeYaks News Release
Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, played to a draw through six Thursday night with Winston-Salem on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field when the rains came. Play was halted after six innings as a thunderstorm zipped through the area with heavy rains and lightning. The game will be made up from the stopping point as a doubleheader on Friday, May 30th.
The Avalanche threatened to score with the storm looming in the bottom of the sixth. With Koby Clemens at first and pinch-runner Jordan Parraz at third, Orlando Rosales flipped a ball down the right-field line that Salvador Sanchez caught to push the game to the seventh. At that point, the storm hit and Salem's front office decided against risking the safety of its employees and chose against covering the field.
Salem lefty Douglas Arguello threw six scoreless innings-the first five of which were no-hit frames-in the suspended game.
The Avs and Warthogs play again Friday night in Winston-Salem as Salem right-hander Corey Bass faces righty Michael Dubee.
