Springfield Sliders News Release
After waiting through the rain for nearly two hours, the Springfield Sliders and Danville Dans finally got the first game of their two game series started at Danville Stadium in Danville, IL. Things started off well for the Sliders as Mike Fitzgerald hit a two run home run to left field three batters into the game to give Springfield a 2-0 lead. Zac Wittmus started on the mound for the Sliders and pitched through jams in each of the first two innings to keep his team ahead. After the second inning, the umpires decided to call the game due to deteriorating field conditions from the constant rain. Tomorrow, these two teams will resume tonight's game in the top of the third inning with the Sliders ahead 2-0. Following that, the two will play a seven inning game to complete their two game series. The continuation of tonight's game will start at 6:00 CT, with the regularly scheduled game to follow. Catch both games on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel. After tomorrow's games, the Sliders return to Robin Roberts Stadium to take on the Hannibal Cavemen at 6:35 on Saturday.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
