RailRiders Win a Nail Biter in 11 Innings

It took 3 and a half hours and 11 innings, but the Riders were able to take down the Glens Falls Dragons on Thursday night.

Victor scored their first run in the very first inning when Tommy Wagner (Cornell University) singled and stole second. One batter later, Mark Cardinalli (U.C. Davis) singled in Wagner and put the Riders up 1-0.

The Dragons would tie the game in the 3rd as Jake Vieth (Tacoma C.C.) hit a sac fly that scored Dan Oliveri (Triton College), would had singled earlier in the inning.

The game then entered a period of 7 straight scoreless innings that lasted until the bottom of the 11th.

Drew Kissel (St. Catherines College) led off the inning with a single. Chris Lehane (Jacksonville University) and Dale Wickham (Cornell University) both walked and Mark Cardinalli came to the plate with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the inning. On the 3rd potch of the at bat, Cardinalli was able to hit a line drive into left field, ending the game.

Both starting pitchers went 5.0 innings and gave up 1 run each. The bullpens for both teams turned out to be very important.

Austin Wilson (LSU Alexandria) and Chris Kemp (Indiana University South East) combined to pitch the last 6 innings for the Riders, striking out 7 batters and keeping the Dragons off the scoreboard.

Chris Lehane finished 2-3 with 3 walks and a run scored. Mark Cardinalli had 3 hits and both RBIs for the Riders.

With the win, Victor moves to 19-18 on the season, good for second place in the West Division as the season comes to an end here in the next 2 weeks.
