RailRiders Sweep Pioneers in Sunday Afternoon Doubleheader

Game one of Sunday's doubleheader featured 25 hits and 21 runs combined between the two teams in just 7 innings.

Elmira got off to a hot start in the very first inning. After the first two hitters were retired, the Pioneers rallied for 5 runs using a hit by pitch, two singles, and a home run from Tommy Mirabelli (University of Kansas).

The RailRiders got 1 back in the bottom of the inning and then used a huge bottom of the 2nd to take a lead that they would not relinquish.

In total, Victor sent 13 batters to the plate and scored 8 runs on 6 hits and benefited from 2 Pioneer errors in the inning.

Victor would go on to score 1 run in each of the next 3 innings while Elmira scored once in the 4th and 3 times in the top of the 7th before finally being shut down. The final score of game one was 12-9 RailRiders.

Peter Lannoo got the win for the RailRiders after pitching the first 4 innings of the game. Colby Sorerson pitched well in relief going 2.0 innings and giving up just 2 hits.

Every player in the RailRiders linup finished with at least 1 run scored. All but 3 Victor hitters ended up with 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Mirabelli and Will LaRue finished up the game with 3 hits each for Elmira, while Mirabelli added 3 RBI.

Game two featured and much more balanced game as Victor won this one by a score of 5-4.

For the second game in a row Elmira struck in the top of the first inning, this time scoring 1 run on a Christian Santisteban home run.

Victor would again strike right back however, scoring 3 runs on 6 hits. Dale Wickham, Matt Fallon, and Brady Acker all singled to start the game and quickly tie the game at 1. One batter later, Drew Kissel, Chris Introcaso, and Aaron Endres all singled right in a row to bring in 2 more runs and put Victor up 3-1.

Victor would score 2 more runs in the bottom of the third when Wickham doubled, Acker triped, and Mark Cardinalli hit a sac fly.

Elmira was able to make the game close, scoring once in the 3rd and twice in the 4th before being held scoreless for the final 3 innings of the game.

Jesse Bogacz earned the win for Victor, going 5.0 innings with 5 K's. Chris Kemp got the save after pitching a perfect 7th with 2 K's.

Wickham, Fallon, and Endres each had 2 hits for Victor, while Acker ended up 3-4.

These two teams will meet up again on Friday, as the Riders travel to Elmira for a 7:00 game.
