RailCats And Crusaders To Raise Money For Boys & Girls Clubs

GARY, Ind. - For the second consecutive season the Gary SouthShore RailCats will face off in an exhibition game against the Valparaiso University Crusaders with proceeds benefitting Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana. This year's game will be played Tuesday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at U. S. Steel Yard.

Tickets to the game are on sale now at a $5 general admission price by calling the RailCats Box Office at 219.882.2255 or visiting www.railcatsbaseball.com. Tickets can also be purchased by contacting Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana at 219.882.1060. Luxury suites, party decks and other group packages will also be sold for the game, but can only be purchased by calling the RailCats directly. Proceeds from each ticket sold will be donated back to Boys & Girls Clubs.

The RailCats will play a total of eight exhibition games this spring before kicking off their 100-game regular season schedule Thursday, May 20 at 7 p.m. against the Kansas City T-Bones. The 'Cats first preseason game is Monday, May 10 at 7 p.m. when the St. Paul Saints come to The Steel Yard for the first time since 2005.

The RailCats and Crusaders first played in 2009 during the spring season, raising $2,724 for the Boys & Girls Clubs. The 'Cats won that game 2-1 on a walk-off single from Isaac Omura, snapping a ninth inning tie.

Valparaiso will play at least three times at U. S. Steel Yard during their regular season, including Wednesday, April 28 when they tangle with Notre Dame in the first-ever SouthShore Showdown. The Crusaders will also host the Horizon League Tournament at U. S. Steel Yard this summer, May 26-30, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana serve over 10,000 youth and have six Clubs in Lake County: Gary, East Chicago, Hammond, Merrillville, Lake Station and Cedar Lake. The Clubs provide youth with programs and services that promote and enhance the positive development of boys and girls, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances.
