Raiders Travel to Louisiana to Take on the Swashbucklers Saturday

April 18, 2012 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Richmond Raiders News Release

The Richmond Raiders (4-1) visit a historically strong team in the Louisiana Swashbucklers (1-3) this Saturday evening in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Bucs have earned a place of respect in the annals of indoor football over the past five years under Coach Darnell Lee, having won three League championships (2007-09) and topped their division in 2011. Recently, however, they appear to have been struggling. This past Saturday night, for example, the Columbus Lions handed the Bucs a 75-61 defeat, the Bucs' third in the last three outings.

The Richmond Raiders, on the other hand, remain in second place in the League as they were victorious over an improving Alabama squad 62-44 thanks in large measure to the exceptional play of quarterback Antwon Young. Young completed 15 of 21, passing for 251 yards and five touchdowns while running for another against the Hammers. Young seems to improve with each successive game and has thrown and run for touchdowns in seven consecutive games, counting the final two games in 2011.

Not being able to settle on a steady signal-caller seems to have plagued Louisiana in recent weeks. Against Columbus, QB Freddie Harrison entered the game in the second quarter for a struggling Sammy Knight, but did not have much success, going just 3-9 with two interceptions. Knight returned for most of the second half and appeared more relaxed and accurate. Together, the two Bucs QBs completed just 17 of 31 passes in their loss to Columbus. Currently, the Swashbucklers rank at the bottom of the PIFL in passing TD's (14) despite their yards per catch ranking at the top (7.0).

Bright spots for the Bucs in the game against the Lions included running Back Kegdrick Perry who picked up 44 yards and scored two touchdowns, and newly signed WR Imanuel Friddle who caught five passes, including three for touchdowns. Another standout for the Bucs was LB Tray Blackmon, a former Auburn linebacker, who racked up five solo tackles, and assisted on another.

Richmond fans can listen to the game Saturday by going to the Richmond Raiders website, www.RichmondRaidersProFootball.com, and clicking on "Media Center" on the home page. Kick off will be at 6 o'clock Eastern time, 7 p.m. Central in Louisiana.
