COLUMBUS, GA (April 18, 2012) - Just days before their big matchup against their cross-state rivals, the Columbus Lions of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) signed local defensive back Derek Douglas and wide receiver Vonzell Pittman.

Columbus native Derek Douglas (6'0 190, Tuskegee, DB) is a graduate of Pacelli High School as his signing now reunites him with former high school teammate Matt Dunham. After earning All-State honors in 2001, Douglas would go on to graduate from Tuskegee University where he combined to rack up six interceptions in his junior and senior seasons.

After college, Douglas signed with the IFL's Colorado Ice in 2010 where he recorded 33 tackles, four pass break-ups and one interception. In 2011 he joined the CFL's Hamilton Tigers before rejoining the Ice at the beginning of the 2012 season where wrapped up another 16 tackles along with one forced fumble.

In 2008, Vonzell Pittman (6'4 215, Gardner-Webb, WR) attended rookie camp with the NFL's New England Patriots before spending time with the AF2's Iowa Barnstormers in 2009. In four games with the Barnstormers, Pittman recorded 25 solo tackles, 16 assisted tackles, along with a 50-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
