Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders (27-25-9-2) earned their fourth consecutive win by downing the Brandon Wheat Kings (33-25-3-2) by a 6-2 score on Tuesday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
With the win, the Raiders pulled even with the Saskatoon Blades for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. Both teams have 65 points with nine games to play.
The Wheat Kings got the game's first goal with 5:21 to play when Ty Lewis beat Ian Scott off the rush.
The Raiders responded with two goals in the final four minutes of the period to take the lead. The first goal came when Parker Kelly fed Kody McDonald on a two-on-one rush with 3:24 to play. Then, Vojtech Budik's blast from the point with 14 seconds remaining in the frame put the Raiders up 2-1 after 20 minutes.
Early in the second, the Raiders extended their lead. Cole Fonstad picked the opposite corner from the right wing at the 1:33 mark to make it 3-1.
Three minutes later, Lewis scored his second of the game when he chipped a puck over Scott from the top of the crease.
The Raiders restored their two-goal lead late in the period. Fonstad found captain Curtis Miske, who was playing in his 250th career WHL game, in the slot and the overager made no mistake in giving his side a 4-2 lead.
Jordy Stallard earned himself a milestone when he made it a 5-2 game 25 seconds into the third. It was the Winnipeg Jets draft pick's 40th goal of the year. Midway through the period, Max Martin's one-timer from the point got through traffic to round out the scoring at 6-2.
Scott was strong when he was tested during the game, stopping 21 Brandon shots. Logan Thompson made 36 saves in a losing effort for the Wheat Kings.
The Raiders are hosting Unplugged And On Tap With Chris Phillips on Friday, March 2 in the Ches Leach Lounge, presented by OK Tire and Lake Country Co-Op.
