The Raiders are expected to face a formidable Columbus team on Saturday night. Almost half the players from last year's squad are returning, and the Lion's will be coached again by Jason Gibson, now in his sixth year with the Lions and boasting a 54-19 record overall. Though the Raiders started strong against Columbus last year, the momentum shifted when a pass intercepted by Columbus on the six yard line was returned for a score. The Lions went on to win the game and their division, but lost the league championship in the final.

On defense for the Raiders, lineman Mike Woodhouse, who led the league in sacks last year, will be back, as will Brent Trice a jack linebacker who topped the league in tackles. Maurice Thorne, a defensive back who led the Raiders in interceptions, will bring experience and skill to the secondary. Another defensive player to watch is Preston Hines, who played last year for the Fayetteville Force and turned in a strong game against the Raiders.

The Raiders have the potential to field an prolific offense as well. Antwon Young returns at quarterback, and there will be depth and speed at the receiver positions. Wide receivers Antwun Williams and Herb Jones are returning, and additional talent has joined the team. Finally, T. C. Stevens, a veteran of professional indoor football in Texas, and an alumnus of Hampden-Sydney, is expected to perform at kicker.
