Raiders Fall To Freedom In Season Opener
March 23, 2015 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Richmond Raiders News Release
The Richmond Raiders fell to the Trenton Freedom on Sunday in a 41-33 loss in Trenton. As Professional Indoor Football is typically known for its high-scoring offenses, this game was a hard-fought defensive battle. At half time, the Raiders led 18-13, but a Freedom comeback in the second half led to their eventual win.
The Raiders started off the scoring as quarterback Phil Konopka found James Carter in the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown pass, and after a missed extra point, T.C. Stevens hit an uno to put the Raiders ahead 7-0. Konopka would go on to throw for three more touchdowns during the game to both Devin Wilson and Herb Jones, and Stevens would nail a field goal and two more unos to finish out the Raiders' scoring for the day.
Freedom quarterback Hunter Wanket threw for four touchdowns, and Melik Brown ran for two more. The Freedom also scored a safety after Konopka was called for intentional grounding in the second half. Wanket spread the scoring amongst Freedom players Roger Jackson, Antwan Rivera, Lavan McCoy and Melik Brown.
Offensively, Gerron Bryant led the Raiders with 9 catches for 120 yards and Devin Wilson had 8 catches for 84 yards. Quarterback Phil Konopka was 25 for 44 on passing, totaling 290 yards. The Raiders are next in action on March 29 as they travel to Columbus, Ga. to take on the Columbus Lions.
The Raiders' home opener will be April 4 as they face off against the Alabama Hammers. Single game and group event tickets are now on sale on the Raiders' website, www.RichmondRaidersProFootball.com and the Raiders' ticket hotline at 804-780-0430.
