Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Saturday, July 27, 2013). The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs didn't bring their bats to Doyle Field today.

Wachusett (15-25) only mustered up four runs as the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (20-22) swept the doubleheader 8-3, 5-1.

In the first game, the Dirt Dawgs' sixth inning rally fell short, as the Raging Tide took the 8-3 win.

Dylan Begin (UMass Amherst) led the Tide with three hits - one of which was a seventh inning grand slam - and four RBIs.

Tito Lluberes (Saint Anselm) added three hits, and Matt Pagano (Marist) had two hits as Old Orchard pounded out 11 total hits.

The Dirt Dawgs scored all three of their runs in the sixth, as Tyler McVicar (Elon) hit a two-run double and Todd Ezold (UMass Boston) added another RBI.

Local central MA product Kevin Marciano (WNEC) had a strong game at the plate for Wachusett with two hits.

Old Orchard starter Joey Royer (New Haven) earned the win; he went six innings while allowing three runs on five hits. Royer's record moves to 2-3 on the season.

Nick Filloramo took the loss for Wachusett, moving to 3-3. He went six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out seven.

The second game proved to be more of the same as the Raging Tide overpowered the Dirt Dawgs 5-1.

Old Orchard received a stellar performance from starting pitcher Ryan Otero (UMiami). Otero went the complete game, allowing only one run on six hits while striking out five. He moves to 2-2 on the season.

Phil Sciretta (Virginia Tech) and Brian Doran (UMaine) led the Tide with two hits and two RBIs each.

For Wachusett, McVicar had two hits - one of which was a solo homerun - and Jamill Moquete (UMass Boston) also added two hits.

Michael Yerina (SCSU) took the loss for Wachusett; he went 6.2 innings and allowed five runs on 13 hits. Yerina moves to 2-4 on the season.
