Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - Oddly enough, fans who came to the Broomfield Event Center to watch the Rocky Mountain Rage and Lubbock Cotton Kings play last night saw the same 5-2 score on the scoreboard tonight. The difference: the Rage earned the win tonight to split the two-game weekend series. Winger John DiPace tallied two goals and an assist and goaltender David Guerrera made 24 saves to lead the Rage.

Last night the Lubbock Cotton Kings got off to a fast start scoring just 19 seconds into the game. Tonight the Rocky Mountain Rage took their turn. Rocky Mountain's Jordan Little won the game opening faceoff making a pass to right winger John DiPace. DiPace battled through two Cotton Kings defenders and scored at a franchise record nine seconds into the game.

Rage right winger Bret DeCecco added a goal at 7:08 for his 12th of the season, giving Rocky Mountain a two-goal lead. Adam Stefishen and Adam Loncan were credited with assists.

With Rocky Mountain outskating Lubbock by the middle of the period, Rocky Mountain's Trevor Weisgerber earned a breakaway opportunity from center ice, but was slashed by a Cotton Kings defender breaking his own stick in the process. Weisgerber scored on the resulting penalty shot at 14:05 giving the Rage a 3-0 lead going into the second period.

The first two shots on goal in the second period belonged to the Rage. The second shot resulted in a goal. Off of passes from Dorian Anneck and DiPace, left winger Nathan Rosychuk slid the puck past Lubbock goaltender Kyle Stanton for his sixth point in the last four Rage games.

The Rage outshot the Cotton Kings 13-9 in the second period, but the second half of the period belonged to Lubbock. The Cotton Kings netted their first point at 9:01 of the second with a goal by defenseman Craig Minard. Jonathan Hobson added a goal for the Cotton Kings at 15:30 to cut Rocky Mountain's lead in half. Patrick Levesque and last night's star of the game Jimmy Callahan were credited with assists on the play.

Fans saw end-to-end action in the third period and plenty of play in the neutral zone. Rocky Mountain's DiPace earned the lone goal of the period for his second of the night and 12th of the season. DeCecco tallied his second point of the night with an assist. Clay Plume also added an assist.

The Rage improves to 13-33-5 (31 points) for fourth place in the northwest division and the Cotton Kings fall to 20-26-6 (46 points) tied for fourth place in the southwest division.

The Rage returns to action Friday when they host the Amarillo Gorillas at the Broomfield Event Center. The Rage will also travel north to the Budweiser Events Center to play the Colorado Eagles on Saturday (March 3) in their final matchup of the season. Fans can listen online at www.RockyMountainRage.com or over the radio live on AM Z560 with pre-game starting at 6:50 p.m. MT.
