Mudbugs Retain Top Ranking in CHL Coaches' Poll
Published on February 28, 2007 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have become just the second club to hold the top ranking for consecutive weeks in the CHL Coaches' Poll, joining the Colorado Eagles (who were #1 on seven straight occasions) as repeat first place finishers. The Mudbugs increased their first place votes from six last week to nine this week and totaled 148 poll points, ahead of a tightly bunched group including Laredo (2nd, 138 points), Colorado (3rd, 134 points) and Memphis (4th, 129 points). Despite slipping to their lowest ranking since November 8th, the Eagles became the first club to clinch a post-season berth win a 5-1 win Tuesday in Wichita.
Oklahoma City (6th to 5th), Youngstown (7th to 6th) and New Mexico (9th to 8th) all improved this week, while Corpus Christi (5th to 7th), Amarillo (8th to 10th) and Austin (10th to not ranked) faltered. The Arizona Sundogs, winners of their last six outings, rejoin the poll for the first time since January 24th and slide into the #9 position.
Throughout the season the CHL will release the results of the Coaches Poll. Each first place selection earns 10 points, second place earns 9 points, etc. Coaches cannot vote for their own team, creating a potential perfect score of 160 points should one club receive all 16 possible first place votes. Previous week results listed below current week.
