SteelHounds Present Pittsburgh Pirates Night

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Pirates, announced today that Wednesday, March 7th will be Pittsburgh Pirates night at the Chevrolet Centre when the Hounds host the Oklahoma City Blazers. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

On hand for the game will be the famous Pirate Parrot who will be one of a dozen mascots celebrating the second birthday of SteelHounds mascot Crusher. As a part of the evening there will be a mascot parade in the main concourse beginning at 6:45 PM.

Also taking part in the evening will be Pirates alumni Elroy Face and Frank Thomas and there will be two field box tickets for a Pirates home game up for grabs during Pirates Trivia taking place during a stoppage in the game.

Face is generally considered one of the pioneers of modern day relief pitching. He pitched in the National League in the late 1950's and the 60's and was the first major leaguer to save more than 20 games twice. From 1967-1986 he was the major league leader in games pitched (846).

Thomas is a former left fielder who played for the Pirates and six other major league teams. In his 16-year career, Thomas posted a .266 batting average with 286 home runs and 962 runs batted in. He played in 1766 games and was an all-star three times (1954-55, 58).

The pair will be singing autographs and dropping the game's first puck.
