Rage Adds Trio of Signees

January 11, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
RiverCity Rage News Release

The RiverCity Rage is pleased to announce a trio of new signees for the fastly approaching 2005 indoor football season. Joining the group for training camp in March will be North Dakota State Running Back Rod Malone, Southern Mississippi Defensive End James Green and German National Wide Receiver Marcel Duft.

Malone ended a distinguished career at North Dakota State in 2003 by being named to the NCAA Division II All Star Game, the Cactus Bowl in Kingsville, Texas. Malone had rushed for 1251 yards as a senior for the NDSU Bison averaging 5.2 yards per carry. The 6'- 215 lb. back will look to compete with Ricky Brown, former University of Texas fullback who led the Rage in rushing last season with 723 yards to his credit.

"We are excited and hopeful of Ricky Brown's return and with the addition of Rod Malone, we should be pretty solid in the backfield." stated Rage Head Football Coach Mike Wyatt.

James Green a 6'1"-293 lb. defensive end from Southern Mississippi has also agreed to join the Rage for the 2005 season. Green is a veteran of indoor football having played the 2004 season for the Lubbock Lone Stars recording 10 sacks in 10 games played.

"James is just coming into his own as a football player. He has a non-stop motor which should serve him well with the Rage." added Wyatt.

The third member of the group will travel the farthest to join the Rage, but he is the least stranger to Wyatt's high octane passing game. Marcel Duft, a member of the German National Team will be reunited with his former coach when he joins the Rage in training camp. Duft led the German Football League in receiving in 2003 hauling in 70 receptions for 1537 yards and 14 TDs while playing for the Wyatt coached Rhein Main Razorbacks.

"Marcel can also do some kicking for us, as well. He will be a nice addition to our receiving corps." added Wyatt.

2ND COMBINE DEEMED A SUCCESS

Thirty nine hopefuls were put through their paces by the Rage football staff over the weekend at the Game Arena in Glen Carbon, IL. The players were run through the normal gamut of tests and then had a chance to shine at positional specific drills under the watchful eyes of the Rage Coaching Staff and Ownership Group.

"The quality of this group was much strong than our tryout back in November. I don't envy the coaches having to whittle this group down to a handful to invite to camp."stated Scott Wilson, one of the Rage Majority Owners.

COMPETE AGAINST THE RAGE IN TANDEM TERROR

In conjunction with the Final Open Tryout on February 5, the Rage will co-host a Tandem Terror Football Tournament. This will pit players from around the area against members of the RiverCity Rage.
