Rage Add Scoring and Toughness Up Front
August 30, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage have signed centerman Daymen Rycroft and left wing Colt King to contracts for the 2007-08 season. The team now has 13 players on its roster for the upcoming Central Hockey League campaign, which begins on Oct. 19 when Rocky Mountain travels to face the Odessa Jackalopes.
Rycroft (5-foot-11, 180 lbs.) is a former CHL All-Star who played for Rage head coach Tracy Egeland during his first two years as a pro when both were with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Following a collegiate career at Ohio State, Rycroft recorded 20 points (12g-8a) for the Killer Bees in 2004-05. He earned All-Star recognition during his second season in South Texas when he almost tripled his rookie output and posted 55 points (25g-30a) and 111 penalty minutes. Coincidentally, the fourth-year pro then recorded 47 points (26g-21a) and 109 penalty minutes last season while playing for Egeland's brother, Allan, who is an assistant coach with the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers. Rycroft is also the first cousin of Colorado Avalanche forward and former University of Denver stand-out Mark Rycroft.
King (6-foot-2, 220 lbs.) also has a connection to the Avalanche, which selected him in the fourth round (130th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Like Rycroft, the native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, enters his fourth year coming off back-to-back 20-goal seasons. After turning pro out of the Ontario Hockey League in 2004-05, he recorded a combined 35 points (21g-14a) and 290 penalty minutes for the ECHL's Augusta Lynx and Utah Grizzlies in 2005-06. Last season King reached the 40-point plateau with 20 goals and 22 assists while racking up 201 penalty minutes for the United Hockey League's Port Huron Flags.
"I'm really excited about having Daymen back on my team," said the Rage's Egeland. "He is a very good all-around player that competes hard every night. And Colt King is your prototypical power forward that every coach loves to have. He is tough and can skate, which helps him make life miserable for opposing defensemen. Colt also has good skill and knows how to put the puck in the net."
