Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - The Waterloo Black Hawks made two announcements Wednesday related to the organization's relationship with KCNZ-AM, 1650 "The Fan": the team will continue its long-running radio partnership with the station; in addition, the recently developed $16.50 Campaign presented by Slumberland Furniture will be extended into a second year.
"I would like to thank Jim Coloff, Cole Bair, and all of the folks at The Fan. KCNZ has brought home and away Black Hawks games to our fans for decades, so we are excited for this partnership to continue," said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene. "We are particularly fortunate to have radio partners who have shown great flexibility as we have worked through the unique challenges of the coronavirus pandemic since last spring.
As in the past, Black Hawk regular season and playoff games will come to fans live from Young Arena and the USHL's other venues. Coverage begins 20 minutes before puck drop and includes an on-site postgame report after the game. Broadcasts are also available for free online at 1650thefan.com. Throughout the week, fans can tune into the station for updates on the team during Maximum Mornings with Mark Simpson and Cole & Company with Cole Bair.
Also during November, the Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship Fund will receive donations from the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture, 1650 The Fan, and the Waterloo Black Hawks.
The scholarship was created in 2017 in memory of Dave Aumer, a youth advocate and supporter of the Waterloo Warriors hockey program. Dave's family and friends established the fund to benefit graduating senior Warriors high school players who are in good team standing, have maintained a 2.5 or better grade point average, and plan to attend an accredited public or private college or university, vocational technical school, or any other accredited institution. The $500 scholarship is renewable each year the student is enrolled in postsecondary education, and it is managed by the Waterloo Community Foundation.
As part of the $16.50 Campaign, the goal is for 100 Black Hawks fans to make a modest contribution of $16.50 to the Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship Fund during the month of November. If that goal is achieved, collectively fans will have the opportunity to take pride in an impactful total gift of $1,650 at month's end.
