Racing Announces 2023 Preseason Roster

Racing Louisville FC on Tuesday announced its 2023 preseason roster the day before training begins at Lynn Family Sports Vision & Training Center.

The group includes 30 players, though nine have not yet reported to Louisville as they finish out loans, work through visa clearances or get much-needed rest from prior loan spells. Twenty-five players are under contract, and Racing's four NWSL Draft picks and a non-roster invitee are also in camp.

"It's exciting to start the preseason and get to work," said Racing head coach Kim Björkegren. "We have a really good mix of young talent and veteran experience, and we have high hopes and expectations for this team. I'm looking forward to continuing to build with our returning players, and I can't wait to see how our offseason additions get on with the group."

Twenty-one players, including 16 under contract, reported to camp on Monday and Tuesday for testing, physicals, onboarding and welcome back or welcome presentations. They'll begin training on Wednesday.

Racing's four NWSL Draft picks - Kayla Fischer (Ohio State), Brianna Martinez (Notre Dame), Jadyn Edwards (New Mexico) and Riley Parker (Alabama) - are all in market for camp vying for contracts and roster spots. Non-roster invitee Olivia Sekany, a goalkeeper who played college soccer at Washington, is in camp to bolster the goalkeeping corps.

Newly-acquired defenders Abby Erceg and Carson Pickett are expected to join camp in the coming weeks, along with Jess McDonald, who recently finished a loan spell with Western United FC in Australia. Nadia Nadim, who is still on the season-ending injury list, is also expected back in market in February, as is Australian midfielder Alex Chidiac, who is on loan with Melbourne Victory for another few weeks.

New signing Ary Borges, a Brazilian international, is awaiting documents to enter the country and report for camp. Same goes for Chinese national team star Wang Shuang.

Goalkeepers Hillary Beall (Western United) and Jordyn Bloomer (Western Sydney Wanderers) remain on loan with their Australian clubs.

The club will announce a rigorous preseason schedule once games and dates are solidified. Racing's 22-game regular season this year will play out over seven months, starting on Saturday, March 25, and concluding in mid-October.
