NC Courage Re-Sign Goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland on Three-Year Deal

January 24, 2023 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) - North Carolina Courage News Release

CARY, N.C. - The North Carolina Courage have re-signed goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland to a three-year contract through the 2025 season. A standout member of the Triangle community, Rowland represented the Courage in the 2022 Nationwide Community Impact Award for her work with the local Boys and Girls Club.

Rowland started all eight Challenge Cup games for the Courage in 2022, helping the team to the championship with 15 saves and a pair of clean sheets. She came up big in the regular season in a pivotal match during the International Window, making 10 saves in a Courage 1-0 win at Gotham to jumpstart the playoff push in the back half of the season.

She served as the regular starter for the 2018 NWSL Championship team, notching eight clean sheets that season that included a playoff win. Overall, Rowland has made 75 starts across all NWSL competitions for her career, making 146 saves with 25 clean sheets.

"When we brought Katelyn back it was not only because we think so highly of her as a player, but also as a person. She was an integral part of us winning the challenge cup in 2022 and is someone who we knew we wanted back. We look forward to seeing Katelyn's continued growth under Nathan and someone who day in and day out will challenge our players to be the best version of themselves," said head coach Sean Nahas.

After a stellar collegiate career at UCLA, where Rowland set NCAA records for both career clean sheets (55) and single season (19), she was selected in the second round of the 2015 NWSL Draft by FC Kansas City. After one season, she signed with Western New York in 2016 and came with the club through the transition to the Courage.

She's spent at least part of every season with the Courage since, including full seasons from 2017-2020. She was traded to the Kansas City Current in July of 2021, but the Courage traded back for her ahead of the 2022 campaign.

Rowland's re-signing brings the Courage active roster to 24, including three goalkeepers alongside Marissa Bova and Casey Murphy.
