Akron Racers News Release

Game One (Friday's Rescheduled Game)

AKRON, OH - August 12, 2012 - The Chicago Bandit's took full advantage of the Akron Racers' errors in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.

The Bandits took an early lead in the first inning with four runs on three hits. The Racers answered back when Lisa Modglin blasted a two-run home run over right field followed immediately by Sam Marder's solo home run to center field.

Kristina Thorson (4-6) shut out the Bandits in the second inning, with three at-bats. The Racers scored two runs in the second, giving them the lead at 5-4.

In the top of the third, after a walk and single, Hillary Bach (5-7) entered the pitching circle for the Racers.

Patton accepted the challenge and hit a single bringing in one RBI. Tammy Williams followed that with another single leaving the bases loaded for Amanda William's single to center field, which brought in two more runs for Chicago.

The Racers struck back with two outs, but it wasn't enough to stop Megan Wiggin's grand slam earning the Bandits seven runs in third inning.

The Racers responded with a solo home run over left field made by Aja Paculba, leaving the score 11-6.

Lisa Norris (4-8) came in for Bach in the top of the fourth after being set up for Shannon Doepking's three-run home run over left field.

The Bandits replaced Michelle Moses (0-3) with Chanda Bell (2-1) in the bottom of the fourth inning.

It seemed to be a struggle in the pitching circle for the Racers as Jen Mineau replaced Norris in the top of the fifth inning. The Racers used four of their five pitchers in one game.

The Racers made one last move in the bottom of the sixth with Sharonda McDonald scoring one RBI followed by Marder's grand slam closing the gap to only a five-run difference.

Monica Abbott came in and closed out the game against the Racers leaving the score 17-13 Bandits.

Game Two

AKRON, OH - August 12, 2012 -- The Chicago Bandits (23-17) took the weekend series winning all four games against the Akron Racers (14-26)

Nicole Trimboli broke the no hit streak in the second inning earning a double, but the Racers couldn't overcome Monica Abbott's (13-3) effective pitching.

Brittany Cervantes scored the first run of the game with an earth shattering solo home run blast all the way out to the 300 foot fence in the top of the third inning.

The Racers managed two hits off of Abbott in the fourth, but couldn't pull off any runs. Erin Arevalo (1-4) pitched for the Racers allowing nine hits and eight runs with six strikeouts. In the top of the sixth, the Bandits continue their lead when Patton hit a double and advanced on an error, earning one RBI on the play.

Tammy Williams followed her lead with a triple to right field earning another RBI. Amanda Williams finished the inning with a two-run home run over right field leaving the score 5-0.

The Racers couldn't hold off the Bandits in the last inning, as they allowed three runs on Alisa Goler's three-run home run to center field, making the score 8-0.

Abbott stayed strong and struck out all three of the Racers last batters up to bat, leaving the score 8-0. Abbott had eight strikeouts, one walk and three hits bringing her ERA down to a 1.07.
