Chicago Bandits News Release
AKRON, OH - Following a 14-8 win for the Bandits on Saturday night, the Bandits' and Racers' bats were still swinging as they entered game three of their series.
Vicky Galindo led off the game with a single and advanced to second as Alisa Goler was walked. Kristen Butler continued her hot hitting against Akron as she hit an RBI single for an early 1-0 lead. Akron pitcher Kristina Thorson then walked Amber Patton to load the bases.
Goler extended the lead to 2-0 as she advanced home as Tammy Williams grounded to second and was thrown out at first. Amanda Williams floated a two RBI single to left for a 4-0 lead.
The Racers also came out of the gates swinging as Michelle Moses walked Sharonda McDonald before Lisa Modglin hit a home run, cutting the lead to 4-2. Sam Marder gave the Racers back to back home runs as she hit a deep solo shot over the center field wall.
The Racers tied the game at 4 in the second inning after Sharonda McDonald got on base with a bunt single and was later batted in by Brianna Hesson. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Jessica Garcia, pinch running for Sam Marder, scored to give the Racers a 5-4 lead as Nicole Trimboli hit a sacrifice fly to center field.
Goler and Butler led off with a walk and single respectively for the Bandits in the third inning before Thorson was replaced by Hillary Bach. Patton then contributed with a single of her own to score Goler and tie the game at 5. Tammy Williams loaded the bases after shortstop Aja Paculba made an error and then Amanda Williams scored Butler and Patton to give the Bandits a 7-5 edge.
With Tammy and Amanda Williams on base, Vicky Galindo reloaded the bases as Paculba made her second error of the inning and then Megan Wiggins cleared the bases with a grand slam to extend the lead to 11-5.
In the bottom of the third, Paculba tried to make up for her errors by hitting a solo home run to left center.
The Bandits offense would not be stopped however, as Patton reached first on a fielder's choice, Tammy Williams hit a single and Amanda Williams reached first and advanced to second on an error, allowing Patton to score.
With a 12-6 deficit, Lisa Norris entered the game to pitch for the Racers as Shannon Doepking came to the plate. Doepking cleared the bases with a three run home run to make the lead 15-6.
The Racers brought in Jen Mineau to pitch during the fifth inning, their fourth pitcher of the game.
Mineau could not hold off the Bandits either as Goler, Butler and Patton managed to load the bases before Tammy Williams hit an RBI single and Amanda Williams was put out but recorded an RBI to put the Bandits up 17-6.
Alicia Herron hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 17-7. Lisa Modglin then reached first on an error before she was eventually batted in by Megan Bush.
Two walks and two singles in the bottom of the sixth allowed Akron to get another run as Sharonda McDonald collected an RBI as Taylor Schlopy crossed the plate, bringing the score to 17-9.
With the Bandits in full control, Marder made it a game again as she hit a grand slam for Akron, cutting the lead to just four as she made it 17-13 in the bottom of the sixth.
Monica Abbott would come in for the bottom of the seventh inning and held off the Racers, securing a 17-13 win for the Bandits, allowing them to take all three games so far during this series.
The final game of the series will be played this afternoon as the Bandits look to sweep the Racers before returning home for the final series of the regular season against the Carolina Diamonds.
