Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Reading, PA - With less than eighty days away from Opening Night at FirstEnergy Stadium, the Reading Phillies have set their opening weekend festivities for the 2010 season presented by Pepsi. Packed with great giveaways for fans of all ages, the world famous Phillie Phanatic, the return of Gluttony Night, and a performance by the R-Phils Mascot Band, the opening weekend events are filled with top-notch family fun entertainment.
"Opening weekend at FirstEnergy Stadium is full of great family friendly fun & entertainment," said R-Phils General Manager Scott Hunsicker. "We have spectacular giveaways, thrilling musical performances, and great all-around nights on our opening weekend's schedule to accommodate fans of all ages, and show fans that the 2010 season is sure to be one of our best ever."
On Thursday, April 8 at 7:05 p.m., the Reading Phillies will take the field for the first time in 2010 as they host the Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox) for game one of an electrifying four-game series. The first 3,000 fans in attendance for the club's Opening Night will receive a Reading Phillies "fleece blanket with sleeves" presented by Pepsi. Fans will also be treated to the first of ten R-Phils Mascot Band pre-game concerts presented by National Penn Bank. Also, fans in attendance will be handed an R-Phils Dance Team poster, and will have the chance to win a vacation getaway thanks to White Star Travel Center and 830 AM WEEU.
On Friday, April 9, at 7:05 p.m., all fans in attendance will have the chance to take part in one of the most popular nights to hit Reading, as Gluttony Night returns for the first of its three scheduled games this season. First unveiled during the 2009 season, Gluttony Night gives fans a chance to show how much they can eat. For just $10, fans can buy a Gluttony Night wristband - which grants them all-you-can-eat cheeseburgers, hot dogs, pizza, French fries, ice cream, funnel cakes, and fountain sodas, from 5:00 until the 7th inning stretch. Last year, the R-Phils gave fans two chances to partake in Gluttony Night, and on Gluttony Night I, the Gluttons set a stadium record by devouring 4,549 hot dogs (1.77 per) -- topping the previous high of 4,275 sold on Father's Day 2008. During the all-you-can-eat feeding frenzies held during games on May 19 and August 26, the combined units of cheeseburgers, hot dogs, pizza, French fries, funnel cake, ice cream and soda consumed amounted to 39,239 - earning a nomination by Minor League Baseball as one of the top ten promotions of the 2009 season.
While fans will be eating their hearts out from the time gates open until the seventh inning, the night will also serve as "Crazy About Reading Night", as participants in the R-Phils Crazy About Reading club will receive a free ticket and an R-Phils player will read a book to the kids from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Families can also take part in the popular 4 for $48 family night package, presented by Capital Blue Cross.
The following night, on Saturday, April 10 at 6:05 p.m., fans of all ages will be treated to a performance by the world famous Phillie Phanatic. The Phanatic, who debuted on April 25, 1978 at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, has been entertaining fans for over thirty years, and will bring his exciting show to Baseballtown. Also on Saturday, there will be a pre-game student music performance with help from 830 AM WEEU. All music students are encouraged to bring their instrument and perform in the special pre-game concert. All participants will receive a free ticket.
The exhilarating four-game series concludes on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m., as the first 2,000 kids in attendance will be given a Ryan Howard R-Phils Greats collectors baseball. The baseball, which will be the first in the series, is presented by Van Bennett Food Co. Kids who are members of the R-Phils Kids Club can also take part in "Bring Your Camera" to the game for the pre-game R-Phils player photo session, which is set for 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. All Redner's R-Phils Kids Club members can receive a free ticket to the game and participate in the player photo session.
Full season and partial season ticket packages for the 2010 season, presented by Pepsi, as well as tickets to the all-you-can-eat picnic buffet areas, are on sale now and can be purchased in person at FirstEnergy Stadium, by calling (610) 375-8469 or by visiting www.readingphillies.com.
