R.J. Enga Named WCHL Player of the Week

April 9, 2002 - West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) - Colorado Gold Kings News Release

Colorado Springs, CO - Colorado center R.J. Enga has been named WCHL Player of the Week for April 1-7.

Enga enjoyed a pair of huge games against the Anchorage Aces as the Gold Kings swept the series to finish the year with four straight wins. He had a goal and two assists in a 6-4 win Friday night and then registered his first hat trick of the year to go along with an assist in an 8-2 rout Sunday evening.

The 30-year-old Enga saw his numbers dip only slightly from last year's career-best 50-goal, 105-point season that landed him a first-team all-WCHL selection and a trip to the 2001 WCHL-CHL All-Star Game. In his fourth year with the Gold Kings, Enga racked up 48 more goals, second in the WCHL, and finished third in the league's scoring race with 95 points while playing in all 72 games, numbers that earned him second team all-WCHL honors. Enga has not missed a single game, pro or college, since his sophomore year at Colorado College (1992-93), when he was out of the lineup against Wisconsin due to a concussion.

The Gold Kings (39-26-7, second in the Northern Division) square off with the Tacoma Sabercats (30-36-6, third) in a rematch of last year's best-of-five first round series, eventually won by Colorado in the deciding fifth game. The Gold Kings posted a 7-4-2 record head-to-head against the Sabercats this year. Games One and Two of this year's best-of-five match-up will be played at the Tacoma Dome; Friday night at 8:35 p.m. MST and Saturday night at 8:05 p.m. MST. The Gold Kings return home for Game Three Monday, April 15th, at 7:05 p.m. at the Colorado Springs World Arena. Jack Michaels calls the play-by-play for Colorado's games, all of which are broadcast live on KKCS-AM Hot Talk 1460.
