Monterey Bay FC News Release

Goalkeeper Dallas Jaye

On losing at home after a good run of form:

"It's a frustrating one, mainly because we just weren't ourselves tonight. We were a little behind the eight ball, a little sluggish, more than we expected. I think we came out at Louisville and at home against Colorado and we had a lot of energy, and you saw that right from the kickoff. Tonight we lacked that a little bit. We're missing a couple of familiar faces, guys that have been in good form for various reasons. We had the next man up mentality, guys were ready to step up to the plate tonight, but it just wasn't clicking tonight and credit to a good Oakland team. They came here and they kept the ball well on us. They made it difficult, they finished their chances, and they go home with the three points. It's a tough one to take, especially with where we're at in the table compared to Oakland. That would have been a six-point swing getting points tonight, but it's back to the drawing board. It's another game and we'll put this one behind us. We'll learn from it and push on to San Antonio next week."

On the goal line save after Hugh Robert's redirect:

"My job is to have these guys' backs when it breaks down and they get themselves right in front of goal, they got my back as well. Hugh [Roberts] makes a great play recovering there to stick his leg out. How he doesn't manage an own goal there was impressive in itself. He's able to contort his body to keep the ball out and then I'm there just picking up the pieces. We're getting those relationships on the field more and more each week because at the end of the day, it's still a brand new group of guys playing together. We've only been together for three or four months, 12 or 13 games, so relationships are still going, but you're seeing guys backing each other up and having each other's backs for 90 minutes."

On the difficult start to the season in regards to injuries and illnesses:

"I think tonight, result aside, it's a credit to the resilience of this group we have. Guys stepping in tonight that maybe haven't played a lot of minutes as of late, but guys who have played a significant amount of minutes throughout the season. We've had everyone on our roster see some time here or there and that's something that's going to pay off a lot as you get into the middle half and the last third of the season. Because if a guy is coming off the bench that hasn't really played much, you want to trust everyone in the locker room and we're able to do that because we've had to deal with what we've had to deal with and everyone's had to step up and play."

Midfielder Jesse Maldonado

On a tough loss at home:

"It is a big rivalry, and we didn't give the fans what they wanted, but it's all right. We'll get them next time for sure."

On creating opportunities after entering the match:

"The opportunities that I was able to create, I was just trying to give that extra push for the team and give them that extra energy. Overall, we should have all given that extra energy, but there's always the next game, we can improve and learn from this."

On the team being unable to produce shots on goal:

"They're a good side defensively, they kept a great shape. They stayed composed, they stayed tight, and it was hard to break through them, but we tried to do what we could."

On improving going into next week:

"I'll just keep doing the same thing, trying to earn a spot and trying to give the team that extra energy that they need whether it's coming off the bench or starting, just trying to give that extra energy."

On losing after two big wins:

"It was obviously disappointing, we didn't get the result we wanted obviously, but we can learn from every game. Every game we lose and every game we win, we can learn from it all. Now we'll move on to the next one."
