GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - For the second year in a row the Oakley Battle of the Borders All-American Game baseball tournament will be at QuikTrip Park, with this year's event going from September 28-30.
Top high school baseball players from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Louisiana will compete for a state title and showcase their skills for collegiate and pro scouts from around the country. Seventy percent of the players from last year's
Battle of the Borders tournament have either been drafted in the 2012 Major League Draft or received scholarships to play NCAA baseball.
"The Battle of the Borders gives baseball fans, scouts, and the news media an opportunity to see the collegiate and professional baseball stars of tomorrow," said Cade Griffis, tournament director.
From last year's team, Ty Hensley (Team Oklahoma) was drafted in the 1st Round of the 2012 MLB Draft and signed by the New York Yankees. Last year's tournament MVP, Jake Thompson (Team Texas) was drafted in the 2nd round and signed by the Detroit Tigers. Teddy Stankiewicz (Team Texas), who also made last year's All-Tournament Team, was also drafted in the 2nd round, by the New York Mets. Shilo McCall (Team New Mexico) was drafted in the 9th round and signed with the San Francisco Giants.
This year's blue chip rosters include high school juniors and seniors, selected through a nomination process, which includes a vote by a panel of coaches from each state. The tournament will begin Friday, September 28th, with Team Louisiana vs. Team New Mexico (3:30 pm), a state against state home run derby (6:00 pm), and Team Texas vs. Team Oklahoma (7:30 pm).
Tournament sponsor Oakley will also be raffling off prize packages worth up to $5,200 for youth teams attending the tournament, including $1,000 cash. Just visit the Oakley tent at QuikTrip Park to get your free raffle ticket. Youth teams in uniforms can get in for just $3 per person.
Tickets are available by calling the AirHogs office at 972-504-9383 or visiting the QuikTrip Park box office. Prices are $10 per day for adults, $5 for kids 16 and under, free for children under 3 and scouts.
