Quebec Pitching Does in Black Bears

PITTSFIELD-The Berkshire Black Bears lost the first game of a four game series to Quebec on Monday night. The Black Bears managed five hits of Quebec starter Tim Stanton who went 7 full innings. Stanton struck out five, walked five and allowed two runs. Game two of the series is scheduled for tomorrow night at Wahconah Park at 7:05.

Black Bears starter Trad Sokol walked the first two batters and after getting Brian Cornelius to ground out he gave up a bases clearing triple to John Cotton giving Quebec a 2-0 lead. Rafael Pulhous then scored Cotton with a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. He later scored on a single by Rudy Gomez. Eddie Lantingna struck out and was followed by BJ Garrison who singled marking the end of the game for Sokol.

Alex Lelless came on in relief Sokol and got Raul Marvel to ground out ending the first inning. The score remained 4-0 until the top of the 5th inning when Rafael Pulhous scored on a one out single by Eddie Lantingna making it 5-0. The Black Bears finally got on the board in the bottom of the 8th with a two run double from Todd Brock making it 5-2, but the Black Bears could not manage any more runs.

Quebec closer Mark Cisar came in to pitch a perfect 9th inning giving him the save, league leading third save. A highlight for the Black Bears was reliever Brian Gouin who pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. At the plate, Todd Brock was the best hitter of the night going 2 for 3 with two RBI's.
