Quebec Major Junior Hockey League becomes premier partner of Lung Association's Holiday Ice program
November 8, 2007 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
MONTREAL, Thursday, November 8, 2007 - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is proud to announce that it has partnered with the Lung Association of Canada in its efforts to launch the Holiday Ice program in which personalized QMJHL Christmas seals, created by renowned sports artist Shirley Deaville, will be sold to improve the health of all Canadians.
"We are very happy to be a part of this exciting endeavour," commented the Commissioner of the QMJHL, Gilles Courteau. "By participating in the Lung Association's Holiday Ice program, our clubs will play an important role in world-class medical research aimed at finding cures and better treatments for people with lung disease. Moreover, this campaign will not only help support the Lung Association in their search for a cure, but it will also play a part in our players' academic undertakings, since 25% of all sales will be returned to them in the form of bursaries. Therefore, I invite fans from across the QMJHL landscape to visit the official website of the Holiday Ice program for more information at www.holidayice.ca."
Statistics show that over 6 million Canadians live with lung diseases such as asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), lung cancer and sleep apnea. Thousands of children with moderate to severe asthma cannot or will not play any form of hockey for fear of an attack.
