BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, November 8, 2007 - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today revealed the first attendance report of the 2007-08 season. The statistics show that eight of the League's eighteen clubs have noticed rises in their figures. Nevertheless, despite dramatic increases in markets such as Quebec City (+14.3%), Lewiston (+12.3%) and Cape Breton (+9.2%) there was a slight drop (2.1%) in overall attendance. The QMJHL is averaging 3,257 fans per game through 168 regular season contests.
Reports demonstrate that in the past five years, ten out of sixteen franchises (prior to 2005-06 expansion) have benefited from impressive rises in attendance figures: Chicoutimi (+ 1,687), Drummondville (+ 817), Gatineau (+ 188), Moncton (+ 186), PEI via Montreal (+ 1,180), Québec (+ 7,234), Rouyn-Noranda (+ 196), Lewiston via Sherbrooke (+ 701), Val-d'Or (+ 31) and Victoriaville (+ 416). The overall average per game has risen from 2,692 in 2002-03 to 3,257 this season.
The largest crowd of the new campaign was registered on Sunday, October 14, at Colisée Pepsi as the Remparts hosted the Rimouski Océanic in front of 13,530 spectators.
Of note, the QMJHL predicts that it will welcome its forty-millionth fan prior to mid-January.
